Who we are ..
We are a community-based group of gardening enthusiasts who meet monthly to learn from specialist speakers, share our knowledge and experience of gardening, including hands-on activities so members learn new skills, hold social events and go on trips.
We were founded around 25 years ago as Cleobury Mortimer Horticultural Society, but changed our name to Cleobury Gardeners about three years ago to better reflect the breadth of our members’ interests.
Members’ main interests lie in gardening itself and growing fruit, vegetables, flowers and shrubs, rather than focusing principally on the horticultural knowledge that underpins growing plants of many types and descriptions, usually from different climates and other parts of the world. While these aspects are of significant interest, the breadth of our interests, we feel, is better reflected in our new name.
So, whether you grow pots on your patio, plant up hanging baskets, garden in a small space or have a larger garden, Cleobury Gardeners is for you. Join us – you’d be very welcome!
What we do …
Organise a range of speakers on gardening topics throughout the year
Run active practical sessions to learn new techniques
Organise garden visits to a variety of locations in the summer months
Hold social events such as summer socials and allotment BBQs
Hold regular plant sales to help raise money for group activities and projects
Run the annual Learning To Grow Food Competition
Manage the allotment site in Cleobury Mortimer
Help manage the pleached lime trees in the centre of town
Support local non-profit organisation Nineveh Ridge Care Farm
We also make good use of our RHS affiliation which allows discounted entry for members to RHS gardens!
We meet at various times during the year, with various visits and tutoring sessions in local gardens and talks, usually on Monday evenings at Cleobury Country Centre.
